Inspiration for our New Site & Brand
August 15, 2008 – 8:09 pm
Two films, both out for several years, are visually beautiful and inspiring to me. Pride & Prejudice, besides being one of my favorite films ever, has such gorgeous light. It is inspiring to see how the director Joe Wright and the DP Roman Osin, captured the soft, warm glow of light. I can watch the movie over and over and be moved to see the light more; to capture the light from different angles to create different moods. It’s something that as photographers we know and have learned but I think it’s something we constantly grow with and study.
The other film that has inspired me and caused me to grow as an artist is Marie Antoinette by Sophia Coppola is a fantastic director and as an artist I love how she captures mood and emotion.

Inspired by My Fun & Graceful Bride
July 31, 2008 – 1:39 am
It’s hard running a business sometimes, especially a photography business. It seems like we get so busy. Always meeting new clients, getting to know them, editing images and album designs. There’s almost a bittersweet joy when we deliver the final product to them. You know they’re excited but you know it’s time to move on to new clients. But every now and then a bride comes along who unknowingly impacts you and reminds you to laugh more often.
As we prepare to release our new brand, which showcases our style more, I was looking through our archives. Jin was one of our brides from 2007. She was married in Providence, RI and literally glowed all day. Jin & Matt couldn’t stop smiling and they truly had fun in front of the camera. { Something I admire since I get shy in front of one. }
Seeing her pictures again reminded me how much she seems to be one of those rare people who is constantly smiling and loving life. I know she has an amazing story to tell of her father, Wenli Xu . And she definitely has been an amazing young woman in her fight for human rights, but that’s a different story. Here she’s just a beautiful, happy bride who is loving life and enjoying letting the camera capture it. To me I see grace and peace in her eyes and I’m so glad I was able to freeze that moment. She has inspired me to get in front of the camera more and let my love for life show through. After all, we never know when we might inspire someone else. Thanks Jin for being you in front of the camera and allowing me the priviledge of capturing it!

Stylish Groom & A Little Bit of Gucci
July 21, 2008 – 1:29 pm
There is something about Italian men that radiates style. They seem to know hip or at least how to fake it. So this got me thinking, what makes a groom so stylish? Is it the clothes or is it the laid back attitude? Does Gucci make the man or does the man make Gucci? Does Louis Vuitton give him more presence and charisma or does he have it already?
Well here a few images to give food for thought.
{is it the sunglasses or the look?}
{ Does that bag make him more charming? }
{ And does he smile with this little brown box the way we do over the little blue one? }
{ Would custom tailoring make him more classy? More sophisticated? }
{ Do the little details add to his appeal? }
{ So is it the clothes? }
{ Or is it the attitude? }
I personally think Italian men have an inate style that goes along with their confidence. So here’s to Gucci enhancing the man within!
What do weddings and fraternities have in common?
July 8, 2008 – 6:45 pm
Recently one of our grooms, who is a PiKappaAlpha, mentioned that planning a wedding was a lot like pledging a fraternity. At first I thought he’d totally lost it . But being a southern girl who grew up with college and Greek Life always being in the same sentence, I gave it a second thought.
[Rush Week] - engagement. You make the announcement to family and friends. There are the dinners and parties to celebrate. The feeling that the whirlwind is just beginning. But you’re so elated you jump in with both feet.
[Pledgeship] - planning. This is the time when you’re learning everything you can about weddings. Like those pledges who carry their manual or pledge book with them, memorizing all that they can between classes, the bride carries her binder with her everywhere. She is determined to know everything she can about themes, color ideas, gowns, photographers and somehow fit it all in between work, friends, family and fiance.
But fortunately, hopefully like the fraternities and sororities she has a…..
[Big Sister or Big Brother] - the planner. The one who listens to all these ideas, sorts through and helps the bride narrow her choices down. The one who answers questions, helps carry the stressful load when she feels overwhelmed with information and decisions. The shoulder to cry on when she feels she can’t make another decision or will even make it to the big day.
Now what about that unspoken, nasty word that no one on campus wants to hear? It’s dreaded but a definite part.
[Hazing] - what the guy feels during all those months of prep. Let’s face it, us women are into registering, the showers and pre-wedding parties. As our groom pointed out, all of that reminded him of hazing or going through a rite of passage before he could get to THE DAY.
And finally after all the planning, anticipation, excitement and tears, it’s arrived…..
[Initiation] - wedding day. The bride, just like that pledge, has hoped and dreamed of this day. The day where all eyes are on them and everyone is admiring their months of hard work and planning. She takes a deep breath, hugs her Big Sister or Brother and walks down the aisle. For the bride it’s satisfaction that she made it through months of planning and for most grooms, he’s lost in her; forgetting all the ‘hazing’ he endured because of his love for her. And just like those pledges, they’re both now members of a special organization called marriage.
